Cincinnati Bell Launches Free Fioptics Wi-Fi at Findlay Market, Fountain Square

April 3, 2015

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Cincinnati Bell is lighting up Fountain Square and Findlay Market with free Fioptics Wi-Fi service in time for Monday's Opening Day festivities downtown and in Over-the-Rhine.

Thousands of fans will participate in events including the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade, and the Opening Day Rally on the Square. Cincinnati Bell's Fioptics Wi-Fi network will provide the connectivity to help fans in these locations share pictures, tweets, texts and other communications throughout the day. Users will be able to log in by choosing the "Fioptics Free WiFi" network from their mobile device. Fioptics Free Wi-Fi is available for anyone to access in those areas.

Cincinnati Bell also recently installed free Fioptics Wi-Fi at The Aronoff Center in advance of the Broadway in Cincinnati presentation of Disney's "The Lion King." "The Lion King" is one of the Aronoff's most popular shows and is expected to draw 80,000 people over the course of its month-long run.

Cincinnati Bell's Fioptics Wi-Fi service is part of the company's "Light Up Cincinnati" initiative, which launched in 2014 and is connecting individuals and businesses with each other and the community in new, dynamic ways through reliable, fast and accessible technology. Cincinnati Bell has provided free Fioptics Wi-Fi service at events including last year's Bunbury and Buckle Up music festivals at Sawyer Point.

Cincinnati Bell hopes to light up additional locations, including The Banks, Smale Riverfront Park, and Sawyer Point, with free Wi-Fi in time for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 14.

"People want to be able to share their experiences and engage their networks wherever they go," said Christi Cornette, senior vice president of marketing for Cincinnati Bell.

"Having an always-on, reliable data connection is becoming increasingly important, especially in public gathering places like these. We are very proud to bring this connectivity to Cincinnati in time for Opening Day."

Fioptics is Cincinnati Bell's suite of high-speed Internet, video and voice services for consumers and small businesses, and is helping drive Cincinnati Bell's ongoing transformation into a fiber-based entertainment, communications and IT solutions company.

Fioptics is powered by Cincinnati Bell's fiber network, which is currently accessible to more than 40 percent of the region, and is expected to cover 80 percent of Greater Cincinnati by the end of 2016.
